I like beautiful doors. Several years ago, I took this picture on the property of a Napa Valley Winery. I got to thinking about doors recently and how meaningful they really are. I mean think about it. They keep things out, keep things in, sometimes bad and sometimes good. But if they’re there, there’s bound to be something on the other side.Interestingly enough there are over 100 Bible verses about doors. Let me just give you one. Okay … two. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20. Here’s the deal. Jesus wants to be with us and He wants us to be with Him. Maybe you know Him already, and maybe you haven’t yet met Him. He’s always calling us to open the door and keep our lines of communication wide open.
Sometimes I feel a little closed in. Closed in with my thoughts, my feelings, my circumstances and I go into this place of “all about Diane.” I’m telling you, that’s my first clue that the door of my heart is not open – but closed. Because if that door is open to the Lord, my life is all about others and pointing others towards Him. And there’s no greater joy than I have ever found in my life than to be able to point a weary traveler to the incomparable oasis of Christ.
So, this is a reminder to those of us who share life with Christ, to keep the door wide open and remember why He lives in our hearts! And, it’s an invitation for those who have yet to open the door of their heart to Christ.
Let me give you one other Scripture about the door – “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” John 10:9. Isn’t that beautiful? Pasture. That’s good news for hungry and frightened sheep.
Doors have hinges. We can open them and shut them. I’m just say’n, if Jesus is on the other side, you’d better rush to open it wide, because there’s no sweeter place to be than in the company of Christ. He changed my atmosphere today and all I did was open the door.
